Mr. Lee's Tips for Wiki-Excellence

So, you want to play in the big-leagues eh?  I have a couple of tips for you that might take your math game to the next level...

The first tip is to check your spelling.  I know that my spelling is attrochias (sp?).   That means if I see spelling mistakes in your write-up, they must be pretty bad.    There is no spell checker in pbwiki so when you think you're finished, save your page and then cut and paste the text into a word processing program (MS Word et. al)  and run a spell check there.

The second tip is proper mathematical typesetting.  Here pbwiki is helping out.  If you go to "Insert Plugin" while you are editting your page, you can instert an equation using the "PBwiki magic" button.  This will allow you to write equations in LaTex.  This format of typesetting is very popular in Universities and other academic settings.  It takes a few minutes to learn but if you are willing to invest the time, you can make professional looking equations...

Formula  Doesn't that just bring a tear to your eye?!  A thing of pure beauty.

A new sample:

Formula

The LaTex code for the quadratic formula is "x=\frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2 - 4ac}}{2a}"  It looks like a dogs breakfast here but when the plugin works its magic, you get nicely formated equations.

A great little primer on using LaTex is here: Getting Started with LaTeX , you might especially be interested in Fractions and Roots and the list of Mathematical Symbols.
